Last night I had the privilege of taking my daughter (8) to see Annie at the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield. We parked in the q-park cheese grater car park where you get 1 free hour (ask for voucher in the theatre foyer). The theatre had lots of staff available giving directions who were very friendly and approachable, the toilets were very clean and well stocked although the queues were long but often are unfortunately for ladies. Drinks could be pre-ordered at the bar for the interval and we’re ready waiting for you.
Annie starred Lesley Joseph as Miss Hannigan and the theatre was almost full. Staff were good in prompting people to turn off their phones and not take photos, this was very useful as some people needed to be told a couple of times. The actors from young to old we’re all fantastic. The scenes and sets were very clear, well presented and easily recognisable what they were. The young actors were marvellous very professional, the speech and singing were all clear and loud.
The scene was set in the orphanages dormitory with all the children in bed, it also featured Mr Warbucks’ house, the New York streets and Miss Hannigan’s office. A real dog ‘Sandy’ ran across the stage before each scene much to the excitement of my daughter… a great touch.
The show featured well known songs such as Tomorrow, Easy Street, I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here and Hard Knock Life.
Annie was a fantastic, young talented actress taking a major role but it worked so well and she really made the show. If you want a fun, family friendly show Annie has it all, a real crowd pleaser. A must see theatre production.
Tickets cost from £25 to £42 (booking fees may apply).
