Alphas is an action-packed US television science fiction drama about a team of 5 ordinary people that have extra-ordinary abilities. They have been thrown together by the Department of Defence and led by a psychologist to find other ‘Alphas’ who have committed criminal acts.

Dr Rosen and his team of 5 Alphas working for the D.C.I.S, the investigative arm of the Department of Defence, they are tasked with investigating a mysterious terrorist organisation known as Red Flag who are using other Alphas to commit crimes for them to achieve their goals. ‘Alphas’ are people with extra-ordinary abilities giving them superhuman powers and abilities.

Dr Lee Rosen (David Strathairn) – Neurologist and psychologist and leader of the team of Alphas assigned to the D.C.I.S (Defence Criminal Investigative Service).

Cameron Hicks (Warren Christie) – Hyper Kinetic: an ex-marines sniper with authority issues with flawless aim and motor skills giving him superhuman reflexes and movement.

Nina Theroux (Laura Mennell) – Hyper Induction: has the ability to override willpower in others by looking into their eyes and making a suggestion.

Bill Harkin (Malik Yoba) – Former FBI Agent with enhanced strength from fight-or-flight response.

Rachel Pirzad (Azita Ghanizada) – Former CIA linguist with Synesthesia: she is able to heighten to enhance her senses.

Gary Bell (Ryan Cartwright) – A young high functioning autistic man who is able to visualise all electromagnetic wavelengths. This is known as Transduction.

Overall, I found this to be an enthralling drama series and thoroughly enjoyed it. While it has the familiar feel of X-Men it has a good plot line and is great fun to watch. A great drama that is easy to watch with some loveable characters. Having now watched the first series I can’t wait to see the second series when it airs on television.

Highly recommended.
