Aladdin at the Kings Theatre Glasgow Review

Aladdin
King’s Theatre, Glasgow

Running until 12 January 2014

A pantomime is certainly the way to get into the Christmas spirit and this year’s offering at the King’s Theatre, Glasgow of Aladdin hit all the right notes.

Karen Dunbar stole the show as Mrs McConkey/Slave of the Ring, what a voice! She was hilarious from start to finish. Gavin Mitchell best known for his role as Bobby from Still Game, fulfilled his role with gusto as the panto baddie.

Aladdin had all the elements of a fabulous pantomime: singing and dancing, a vivacious goodie (Aladdin played by Kieran Brown), a beautiful Princess (Jenny Douglas), an evil force and lots of audience participation!

My children of 4, 7 and 9 years old accompanied me and laughed throughout. There is a good mix of children’s humour (aka toilet humour!), Glasgow references and topical remarks. It really is a great family night out.

The King’s Theatre is in the city centre and is only 5 minute taxi ride from Queen’s Street Station.  We were seated in the Grand Circle and had an excellent view. The theatre has a wonderful atmosphere and the Carol Singers added to the festive ambience.
