Having passed many billboards advertising the show, and then seeing photographs on the Facebook pages of friends, I was somewhat intrigued and so jumped at the chance of tickets to go along and see them performing in their 16th Season touring the UK.
Deciding this would be a perfect girlie night, I invited my best friend along. We arrived at the Sabai Pavilion, which is the Lady Boys own purpose built structure, located in a local park. The pavilion was somewhat opulent, food was available and also a fully licensed bar. We were greeted and ushered to our seats, tables are for 8 people, so we were sharing with other people, this didn’t bother us in the slightest though and by the end of the night we were chatting away to them as well.
The Lady Boys strut on to the stage for the opening number “On a Night Like This” with a glorious array of pink sequins and feathers that Kylie herself would be proud of. Very glamourous indeed, and with figures that most women would be envious of.
The evening continued with a mixture of tribute acts (albeit being mimed) and some more comical routines with audience participation. Amongst these were Amy Winehouse, Freddie Mercury, an upbeat routine to Nicki Minaj – Sound the Alarm with some impressive dance moves.
Be warned, do not sit near the front tables if you are not willing to be dragged on the stage! In fact, I don’t think anywhere would be safe to sit, as they dragged some from further back as well.
The highlight of the evening for us had to be the boxing spoof routine. Without spoiling it too much for potential show goers, it had the audience in kinks. The night was also rounded off with a rendition of The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond, accompanied by kilted Lady Boys dancing. The Sabai Pavilion was bouncing, the audience were all on their feet dancing.
And so the tour continues, I shall certainly be keeping a look out for them returning to Dundee next year.
I would give the Lady Boys 4/5 for an overall night out experience.
