I have been eyeing up the Vileda Windomatic Power for a wee while! Having a house full of glass doors and some rather sticky fingered children and wet nosed dogs, it has certainly been put through its paces!
The cardboard box contained the Windomatic Power and the charging cable. The packaging was sufficient without being excessive. Most of the instructions are printed on the box which are clear and easy to read. Vileda offer a 2 year guarantee with the Windomatic Power to repair or replace parts or even the machine.
My first impression were it was lighter than I thought it would be, weighing only 640g empty. The machine is all plastic except from the rubber blade. I like the fact it is rechargeable and it came with some charge as I am a bit impatient and wanted to try it out straight off. The battery will take about 3.5 hours to charge from flat which gives about 40 minutes of using time. I would imagine that would be plenty for most homes. Vileda says it will clean 120 square metres on a single charge. I used it for over half an hour and it showed no signs of slowing down.
It was all very straight forward to use. I wiped the windows down and removed any marks with a cloth and water then used the Windomatic Power to dry them off. There is the option of normal or max suction which has 50% more suction. The results were excellent leaving the windows dry and free from streaks even on the normal setting. I felt the max was useful where the surface was wetter.
The tank in the machine collects the water. It holds 100ml which doesn’t sound like a lot but it is such small volumes of water it is sucking off the windows, it does take a while to fill up. For added convenience, the tank can be washed in a dishwasher.
The Windomatic Power can also be used it clean and dry the shower. I thought it might not work on a curved glass shower door but the flexible head worked absolutely fine vertically leaving a good finish, the max setting was useful here where there was more moisture. I can see it will be useful clearing up spills as well.
The RRP of the Vileda Windomatic Power is £68.99 but it is currently on offer directly from Vileda at £48.29 (editor’s note – at the time of writing the review but not at the time of putting the review online) and can be purchased from their website www.vileda.co.uk. I feel at just under £50 it represents value for money- I don’t know how many ‘wonder’ products I have bought claiming to leave streak free window that never quite measure up. At almost £70 though, I’m not sure I would stretch to paying that much for it!
I would definitely recommend the Vileda Windomatic Power to friends as I feel it lives up to its claims of leaving window dry and streak free while being easy to use although I would prefer to buy it while on offer!
