The Akeman (Tring) Review
The Akeman
Tring

This stylish restaurant is located down a cobbled street within Tring town centre. It hosts immaculately clean tables and chairs with delightful, smiling staff – the gold star service wasn't just reserved for our visit, everyone was treated as a valuable patron. The decor was appropriately subtle (not overbearing) for the time of year.
Starters:
Pumpkin Soup (off specials menu ) served with bread – creamy, wholesome and surprisingly spicy.
Gamberoni al aglio (king prawns) – good quality, juicy prawns, piping hot and full of spicy, creamy flavour.
Main course:
Chicken breast with dauphinoise potatoes creamed leaks and girolles sauce – melt in the mouth chicken served with a reasonable accompaniment of vegetables.
Duck breast with dauphinoise potatoes, spinach and cherry glaze. Beautifully tender duck with incredible flavour – a taste sensation.
A generous portion of gently roasted vegetables as a side order, captured with individual flavours as a healthy addition to the meal.
Desserts:
The waitress made a positive impression when she told us how long our puddings would be, as the hot desserts took a little longer than others. This was a pleasant and refreshing change where most restaurants would leave customers waiting.
The apple pie was a pleasant puff pastry with and apple filling with pouring cream. The white chocolate cheesecake was light, enjoyable and served with whipped cream.
Parking is a slight issue if you have a disability as all spaces (approximately 10 outside of the restaurant) were taken however there is a pay and display car park just 5 minutes walk from the venue.
Although we weren't brave enough to try the beautifully decorated beer garden, with outdoor log fires and gentle waterfall fountain we'd definitely come back in the summer to see it in all its glory.
