When offered the chance to review the Tile Performance Pack I went straight to the website to see what I might expect and found a wealth of tracking devices and designs which left me curious and keen to see which would arrive.
The Tile Performance Pack consists of a Pro fob device and a credit card size Slim device in a matching design, ideal for keys and wallet for example but there are other options available. The credit card Slim would slip into the back of a mobile phone case, or briefcase. The Pro fob on a bag or lanyard for example. In this review I tried them on a set of keys and in a wallet.

The card is slightly thicker than a credit card but made no noticeable difference when slipped into the wallet pocket. So much so it would be easy to forget that it’s there.

I was feeling imaginative, what about if you’re the kind of person who forgets where you parked your car, this gadget could really help. Not only can it save valuable time when searching for misplaced items at home but also when out and about. The Pro fob has a 400ft range and the Slim card 200ft. That’s really going to do the job at home with ease and then the Tile network can help when you’re out of range.

I checked this out. There are 477 Tile users near me. So if I lose something the ‘last place’ function of the app can help me track it down, or, I can tag it as lost and it’ll ping up when other Tile users are nearby, helping you to find your lost item. And when you’re back in the vicinity you can set off the audio chime to help you find the precise location once you’re in range. The more people who have Tile, the better the lost and found network becomes. However, everyone with the app, some 40 million worldwide, becomes part of the network and it won’t even involve them that they’ve helped locate your lost item, it all happens passively and only notifies you.

I also learned that you can reverse the function by pressing the button on the fob or card twice and it will find your phone or device which is paired with it. I hadn’t had chance to test this out but whilst I was out I accidentally pressed my car keys onto the button and a few seconds later my phone, which was on silent, gave a cheery tune. Brilliant! I read that this is the most frequently used function. Not quite what Tile were planning I imagine but handing for those sofa excavations when you can’t find where you put it down.

The first thing to know is how it works; Tile works by pairing it with the app on iOS or Android by simply pressing the circular button in proximity to your mobile device. It took just a couple of minutes to set up and I could label the Pro fob and Slim card via my phone so I knew which item I’d be looking for at a glance. To prove it is paired the Tile plays a cheery tune which is quite distinctly audible and could be heard from other rooms. This would no doubt be really important when searching the house for a set of keys.

The fob has a one year, user replaceable battery, good to know. The card has a three year battery and both are water resistant or in the case of the card – waterproof. This would expand their range of uses. Imagine losing a drybag whilst out on the water and being able to track it down. Or slipping it into a child’s pocket at a busy event or unknown area where you might lose sight of them. I can see so much potential for the use of Tile devices.

And if someone finds your possessions who isn’t a member of the Tile community, they can scan the QR code to return your items to you. In addition to all the good things I’ve discovered so far, it’s also good to know you can use voice commands with existing gadgets such as Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant to find any Tile devices around the home, another feature quick and easy to set up.

If you have a gadget fanatic in your life, or someone prone to losing car keys, phone, wallet, bag or anything else, you could give them the gift of a less stressful day this Christmas with the Tile Performance Pack. There’s lots of great designs to choose from and plain for those keeping it low-key. There’s also free delivery in the UK, helping you get your seasonal shopping done with ease.
