My daughter is an enthusiastic little baker, so we were quite happy to be picked for a review of Carr’s flours.

Our package arrived containing:

2 x 6 seed bread mix
2 x Malted Grain bread mix
2 x Sun-dried Tomato & Chilli mix
1 x Carr’s Kids Biscuit Mix
1 x Carr’s Kids Bread Mix
1 x Cookie Cutters

The stated value for this was £11.35 and I thought it was an excellent selection for that price.

As we only have 7 days to do the review, we picked the Easy Kid’s mixes to use.

First was the ‘Kids Really Easy Biscuit Mix’ and my daughter was eager to do this independently. She prepared all of it as instructed and found it quite easy to do. The flour was quite thirsty, so she added a little bit more water. She then used the heart shaped cookie cutters.

There was a LOT to get through, and on second thoughts, we should have only used part of the bag. Our bad! What we did instead, was to wrap half the mixture in cling film for the next day.

Once the cookies were in the oven, the smell, of course, was just divine. We couldn’t wait to taste test it. It came out really well, especially considering my girl is not yet an experienced baker, and some of the biscuits were a bit thicker than the others. They were absolutely delicious though! Crunchy and tasty!

The next day, we took the other half of the mixture out of the fridge for a couple of hours before rolling and cutting it. This time she remembered to have it at an even thickness. Again, this batch came out tasting perfectly, and it was really easy to do. She needed no help from me with the preparation for all of this.

The second product we chose to use for this review, was the ‘Kids Really Easy white and wholemeal Bread Mix.’ Now, she has baked biscuits before, but never bread. I can’t call myself an expert in the kitchen either, usually just sticking to the bread machine. So, I was curious to see just how easy or difficult this would be for her.

We read the instructions together, and once she was clear on all the steps, set off to do it by herself. This was another easy little baking project. She mixed it all, set the timer, then knocked it back, and after another waiting period, it was ready for baking.

Now, considering she has never baked bread before, and was adamant that she wanted to do all the preparation by herself, I’ll admit I was expecting a little bit of a disaster. (I won’t tell her that, though!) However, the bread came out looking and smelling delicious.

When I cut through it, the bread was just a little bit dense. What surprised me was not that it went that little bit wrong, but that it was mostly absolutely fine. For a first time ever, and only little hands doing it, I was absolutely amazed that the bread was not only entirely edible, but actually really delicious. With a little bit more help, it would have been perfect.

We still have the rest of the box to go through, but with 2 of the products being such a success, I have no qualms about the rest also being more of the same.

Even for someone like me, who is not too keen on spending time in the kitchen, these mixes are absolutely perfect. It gives you all the satisfaction of freshly home baked goodness, without any of the faffing about, measuring and dealing with a lot of dirty dishes afterwards.

As demonstrated in our house, they are ideal for the little bakers needing to build up confidence, the lazy baker, and no doubt, those who enjoy spending time in the kitchen more, as well. It is also the perfect way to spend some quality time together – if your child lets you!
