Dobble arrived today! What a relief to have something fresh, new and exciting to play whilst we are all going crazy in lockdown. The children are bored and starting to squabble and are in need of something fun they can do together.  I wanted a game that would suit all 3 of my children ages 3,6,7 and whilst the recommended age for this game is 6+.  my 3year old gives it a good good go if we slow down for him.

Dobble comes packaged in an outer box to protect the tin that contains the game. The outer box has a description of game, the age recommendation (6+) how many players (2-8) and an indication of how long each round may take (15 mins) The fact that this game comes in a tin rather than a box is great. No more broken boxes spilling out game pieces (we all have one). Also, this game is small. Small enough to make it perfect for long journeys, days out or packed in a bag to take to the grandparents. It would also fit nicely in the glove box of the car for on the go fun wherever you go! Although I have a feeling ours will be used far too often to be hidden away in the car! Inside the tin along with the game cards are the instructions clearly detailing each of the 5 mini games using illustrations as well as written instructions. There is also a very interesting booklet on the history of Dobble, although the children did not find it at all interesting.

The game consists of 55 circular cards each with 8 fun and colourful illustrated symbols printed on to each card and comprises of 50 different symbols in total. The cards themselves are nice quality.  There are 5 mini games that can be played – The tower, The well, Hot potato (our favourite), The poisoned Gift and Triplet. All the games are alike in the fact that they all require matching up symbols. Between any 2 cards there will only be on matching symbol. The matching symbols may be different sizes or upside down making it much more challenging to spot.

Each game is a fast-paced frenzy with everyone calling out symbols and slapping down cards or grabbing them, depending on which game you are playing!  Unlike some other board games, you do not have to commit a large amount of time to this game as each round is only around 15 mins long, but it could have you playing for the whole afternoon. It really is great fun and will bring out your family’s competitive side. It’s something that I can play with them and enjoy, but also it something that they can play between themselves while I can get on with making dinner, doing laundry or one of the other 1000 jobs I have waiting for me. It doesn’t keep them quiet, but it does keep them occupied. It great to see them laugh and enjoying each other’s company, even if it is only for a little while.
