Little Miss Sunshine at the Theatre Royal Brighton Review

The Theatre Royal in Brighton is probably one of my favourite theatres to go to. I love how traditional it is, the ambience, the decor. Even with its traditional appearance it fits in really well in the unique and Diverse Brighton. It really puts you in the right mood for whatever show you are going to see. The staff are always very polite, friendly, extremely well presented and on hand to help with any query that you may have. A bonus is that it’s minutes walk from car parks and local transport.

Last night we visited to watch Little Miss Sunshine…

The Hoover family put the fun back in to dysfunctional family. A man, his wife, an uncle, a brother and a grandfather all pile into a VW bus in a bid to fulfil the dreams of the youngest member of the family, Olive Hoover.

Olive dreams of winning the Little Miss Sunshine contest in the beautiful California. Along the way the family face death and turmoil but experience love and camaraderie and it all ends with something better. The film version an American comedy in 2006 and starred Abigail Breslin, Steve Carell, Greg Kinnear and Toni Collette to name but a few. Little Miss Sunshine was an overwhelming box office success and was nominated for four Academy awards.

Little Miss Sunshine was brilliant fun to watch, thoroughly entertaining and really enjoyable.

I have seen Lucy O’Byrne in Evita and I thought she was incredible then and my opinion of her has not changed. In fact, I am even more impressed seeing her play a completely different role. Her voice is phenomenal with the most amazing range. The whole cast complimented each other brilliantly. For me some stand out performances were Mark Moraghan (Grandpa Hoover) and Hartley Booth (Olive Hoover) who was absolutely superb.

A fun, lively performance not to be missed.
