Grease at the Theatre Royal Brighton Review

11-31 December 2017

As I walked into the Theatre Royal Brighton on the evening of Tuesday 12th of December 2017 I could already feel the excitement in the air. I had my singing voice prepared and my dancing shoes on. Grease is one of the most iconic musicals/films of all time and one of my all-time favourites. My expectations were high! The production crew and the cast had a big act to live up to.

I personally love going to the Theatre Royal in Brighton. It is what you call a very traditional theatre from the outside appearance, inside décor to the uniforms the staff wear. It is situated right in the heart of the city centre of Brighton a few minutes walk from a multi storey car park and public bus stops. It is clean; the staff are friendly and very helpful. It doesn’t serve hot food but you can buy reasonably priced snacks and drinks. The only down side to the building is that there is only one toilet so the queues are always very long.

The audience were eagerly waiting in their seats for the show to start some of them were dressed in 50’s fashion or as Pink Ladies. The show started with a great song ‘Sandy’ setting the stage perfectly by Danielle Hope (Sandy) and Tom Parker (Danny). As the show continued the pace quickened and on came some of the more popular songs.

For me a highlight was Ryan Heenan (Doody) his vocals were amazing, and he was also very funny. Louisa Lytton also was great as ‘Rizzo’ and had her sassy attitude down to a T. Being a massive Grease fan I expected to come away un-impressed as I didn’t believe anyone could really compete with the original. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the show especially the finale that a lot of the audience on their feet. I would tell any die-hard Grease fan to go and see this show and confidently know they will leave impressed with the young but very talented cast.

A must see alternative at Christmas to any panto!
