Borgo Molino Prosecco Review

Italian Sparkling Prosecco – when Prosecco is not just for Christmas!
The boom in the Prosecco market has exploded over the past 2 years, and we have more choice now than ever with every off license, supermarket and website selling different varieties from throughout the world. We tried this prosecco from Borgo Molino, the Italian wine makers who also deliver rosé, cuveé and other reds and whites including Pinot Grigio.
The company was founded in 1922 by the father of Pietro and Paulo, who now run the company themselves, directing the technical and management sides but working together to produce the various wines.
We tried the Borgo Molino Prosecco DOC Treviso, a dry, sparkling wine.
This prosecco starts with a slightly Christmas fragrance, with the fragrance of soft spices and a warmth that makes me feel more like winter rather than summer. The wine is made with the Glera grape, which was formally known as the Prosecco and is well known for being grown in the Veneto area of Italy, especially in the hilly area north of Trivesio. The grape gives the wine a yellow colour, not unlike Pino Grigio, and shares some of the dry characteristics as well. I was impressed by how easy this is to drink even though it’s a dry wine, and it’s very, very effervescent, even after being open all night, it didn’t give up the bubbles! The dryness is evident on the first sip, and stays with you as an aftertaste as well but isn’t too strong. Unlike other Prosecco, this would be a good accompaniment to food, specifically first courses where you have small amounts of food and strong flavours. I don’t think I’d like this as a glass on its own, it’s more to be socialised with over a meal. It’s alcohol content is approximately 11% and can sit chilled on the table for a few hours. There really isn’t anything bad to say about this wine, and it stands out as being a bit different to other Prosecco you find in the supermarkets.
An excellent companion to a Christmas meal, it will be a lovely aperitif with Christmas Lunch, or a Boxing Day party with friends.
