A Gift For Sensitive Skin

All household water is chlorinated and around a half of our daily chlorine exposure is from showering.

Chlorine not only harms the body when inhaled, but is also absorbed through the skin. It strips the natural protective oils from the skin and hair, causing excess dryness. So bathing and showering with a filter that removes the chemical chlorine can greatly lower its drying effects.

De-chlorinating and softening your bathing water should be a priority if you suffer from a sensitive skin or a delicate skin prone to dryness, eczema, psoriasis or any chemical sensitivities. This is because chlorine is a strong oxidant and causes damage to skin and hair, even at very low levels.

The Clear Tinted Dechlorinating Shower Filter from the Sensitive Skincare Company is a very effective way to remove the chlorine from your shower water and soften the water, to help keep your skin moisturised. Its effectiveness has been proven in clinical studies undertaken at the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine, Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University, Toyama, in Japan. [1]

The filter produces micro-moleculed or softened water to help increase skin moisture retention and improve the ability of the skin to absorb skincare products. The micro-moleculed water can be more rapidly and easily absorbed by the skin. The end result is a skin that retains water moisture well, making the skin quality better.

The filter contains Kinetic Degradation Fluxion or KDF, which is a high purity, nano-granular copper and zinc alloy that removes the chlorine and bacteria, as well as heavy metals and pollution. KDF also has a long life. Calcium Sulphite is included, which reacts with the chlorine present in the water and removes the chlorine mainly through chemical reactions. The Calcium Sulphite is of extremely high purity and long lasting.

The activated carbon in the shower filter is a type of porous carbon-containing material. It is a deposit of highly developed hexa-carbon. Every gram of activated carbon has an effective surface area equivalent to a couple of basketball courts, allowing large quantities of pollutants to be trapped (referred to as adsorption). It reduces chlorine odour and can partially eliminate a few types of heavy metal. It has a strong adsorption of organic macromolecules. Activated carbon is highly effective in removing particles, pigments, and odour-causing substances in liquids. The highly developed pore structure is an excellent adsorbent.

The filter also contains a Hi-Tech Anti-Bacterial Nano Fibre, which comprises multiple layers of disinfectant fiber, each working individually, which, no matter which way the product is installed, will remain as effective at sterilisation. As tested by SGS, the fibers are effective in killing 99% of germs.

The filter is different from ordinary shower filters, which use only a single piece of separator between filtering materials – as it uses a unique steamer design that prevents the flexing of separators from water pressure, which will cause different filtering materials to be mixed together. This ensures the quality of water from the filtration process.

The filter does not use the traditional direct flow design, so this new design can fully utilise all the filtering materials in each chamber. With the traditional direct flow design, only the centre portion of the filtering material is constantly used, which lowers the utility rate and shortens the overall product life.

The filter is easy to fit; simply screw it into the showerhead and hose. The filtration chambers are clear, so you can see the filtration within the casing. It lasts for 6-12 months, dependent upon frequency of usage and the quality of the water, and lets you know when it needs replacing, as the golden media turns to a black/greenish colour.

The packaging for the filter is recyclable polystyrene, and the shower filter unit and the media within the unit are both recyclable.

The Clear Tinted Dechlorinating Shower Filter is designed specifically for people who have become sensitised to chlorinated water. It can also help those who suffer from dry, sensitive skin or skin prone to eczema, as well as those wishing to maintain healthy, moisturised skin.

The Dechlorination Shower Unit Gift Box, which contains The Clear Tinted Dechlorinating Shower Filter and a pre bath shower oil (100ml) and retails at £39 – is available from www.sensitiveskincareco.com or by phoning 01600 719774.

[1] After clinical studies were carried out for over a year at the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine, Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University, Toyama, in Japan, they found that “Free residual chlorine in bathing water reduces the water-holding capacity of the stratum corneum in atopic skin.” “We examined the effects of residual chlorine in bathing water on the function of the stratum corneum (SC) in patients with Atopic Dermatitis and determined the lowest chlorine concentration showing an effect.” “Some patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) developed dry skin or exacerbated cutaneous inflammations with frequent swimming in public pools or after bathing."

[1] KDF’s effect is based on the oxidation-reduction principle: KDF, being a nano-granular copper and zinc alloy, will create an electrical chemical reaction. When this reaction occurs, the electrons will swap among molecules and thereby resulting in new changes. Some hazardous substance will become non-hazardous. For example, chlorine residuals will become non-hazardous. Similarly, heavy metals like iron, lead, silver, mercury, etc., will adhere to the surface of KDF and therefore are effectively removed from the water.

KDF can create an environment where micro-organisms cannot survive, and can also interfere with the normal functioning of micro-organisms. Therefore it can control the growth of un wanted micro-organisms.
