Oily Cart Presents
Ring A Ding Ding

Oily Cart presents Ring A Ding Ding, an interactive, multi sensory adventure for three – six year olds

Unicorn Theatre, Sat 3 – Fri 30 December 2011 & On Tour

Oily Cart invites children to join them for Ring a Ding Ding, an interactive, multi sensory, theatrical journey, as they help a girl called Alice track down her dog, who keeps ahead of the game on a motorbike, boat and hot air balloon. Along the way they meet a host of colourful characters- from a percussionist on an ice-cream tricycle to the mice that live on the moon- and solve problems, overcome obstacles, create music and even sniff out some smelly cheese.

Ring a Ding Ding features a cast of hand crafted puppets, made entirely from recycled materials, by Oily Cart designer Claire de Loon working in collaboration with South African wire worker Mogothi and inspired by traditional African toys. The musical instruments for the show have also been made from recycled materials by Jamie Linwood, who has transformed the chassis of a lorry into an unusual collection of percussion instruments.

The show playfully explores rings in all their forms: from the sounds of bells, to the movement of the specially designed revolving stage and the rotation of the sun, moon and earth overhead.

2011 marks Oily Cart's 30th birthday. The year has seen Artistic Director Tim Webb receiving an MBE, and the company being selected by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as one of just twenty six charities to benefit from their Royal Wedding Fund.

'A show that energetically stimulates its audience…This is the serious pursuit of pleasure, considerably leavened with wit and music. A wonderful introduction to young minds that haven't toyed with theatre before.'

Oily Cart has been creating and touring its unique forms of theatre to children and young people in schools and theatres since 1981. The company challenges accepted definitions of theatre and audience by creating innovative, multi-sensory and highly inter-active productions for the very young and for young people with PMLD and ASD. Transforming everyday environments into colourful and tactile 'wonderlands', Oily Cart invites its audience to join in a world of the imagination. The company has used hydrotherapy pools, trapezes, trampolines, video projections aromatherapy and puppetry together with a vast array of multi-sensory techniques to create highly original and specialised theatre for and with young audiences.
