Brewers Fayre Weston-Super-Mare Review

Reviewed by Sarah Hicks

On Friday night my husband and I enjoyed a lovely evening at the Brewers Fayre on Weston Super Mare’s seafront. We were accompanied by very good friends and had a really lovely relaxing evening. We’d booked a table for 7.30pm but were unfortunately slightly late due to a road closure on our journey in to town.

The Brewers Fayre in question that we had our meal is a relatively newly venue in the area, having opened in late 2012. The pub was nicely decorated in autumnal shades in a nice modern style. The main pub was clean and both female and male toilets were also clean and nicely decorated.

On arrival we waited approximately 2-3 minutes to be seated at our table by the barman. My husband and friend both had the taste for steak for their evening meal, but whilst being seated we were informed that unfortunately they didn’t have any Sirloin Steak available. We proceeded to order drinks at the bar, they unfortunately didn’t stock my 1st choice of beverage but I was able to reorder with a spirit and mixer instead – I was then offered a double but opted out – I wanted a semi clear head to be able to enjoy my food! Our designated driver was well looked after drink wise – her soft drink was a free refillable one – and she also enjoyed a coffee which was refillable too! Unfortunately the beer is not on the same offer! But both chaps were able to choose from a selection of draught and bottled beers and ciders, so they were happy.

As well as their recently revised menu, also available for a Friday night was the fried fish buffet style counter, where you could help yourself and visit as many times as you liked, but deciding against this we chose from their varied menu.  All the typical pub classics you’d expect were there and there was plenty of choice for even the fussiest of eaters, I then ordered at the bar and was served quickly.

Feeling rather hungry we went for starters – and opted for Cheddar Cheese Sticks priced at £4.49, Breaded Chicken Goujons  priced at £3.99, and our friends chose the Combo Feast for two £7.99 – a sharing platter which included Battered king prawns, breaded BBQ chicken goujons, garlic and herb breaded mushrooms, battered onion rings and slice of cheesy garlic baguette. It arrived timely and was scorching hot, each dish came with a dip or two or three and I must say, we thoroughly enjoyed all on offer and polished it all off pretty quickly!

For Mains my husband chose the Mixed Grill priced at £10.99, my friend the Rump Steak priced at £11.49 – they were both still able to get their meat hit! My friends husband went for the Grilled Chicken and Bacon Salad priced at £7.99 (he’d eaten out earlier in the day so went for a lighter option) and I went for the Smothered Chicken priced at £8.99 – again it arrived with perfect timing and all the meals were well presented. The steaks were cooked as ordered, the garlic bread had been left off of my Smothered Chicken, but before I even noticed this was brought out on a side plate and again the meals, and in particular the chips, were scorchio!

At this stage I will just mention our server – Sade, a well presented waitress who was attentive but not intrusive, she came back a few minutes into both courses to check all was ok and also checked if we needed any sauces for our main courses, she also cleared away our plates after we’d finished but only came over when it was very clear that we’d finished – and therefore we didn’t feel rushed at all.

All in all as mentioned this was a great night out, we didn’t choose desserts as we were too stuffed by the end of our main meals, but there was a lovely selection on offer. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed, we were able to talk to each other without too much background noise (there was background music, but nothing intrusive).

I would definitely recommend a visit, there are lots of food offers available at this particular site – their buffet bar has a different theme each night and they offer eat as much as you like breakfast every morning – there is a Premier Inn attached at this restaurant, but it’s obviously on offer even if you’re not staying the night.

For a night out at chain pub with a standard nationwide menu I would say this site “did it well” and deserves a 4/5 for the food, location and atmosphere.
