Last night my husband, 4 year old daughter and I were lucky enough to go to the Bristol Hippodrome to see this year’s Christmas pantomime, Cinderella, staring Torvill and Dean as the fairy godparents.

Although the theatre itself doesn’t have a car park, there are several places to park in the surrounding areas. This time we decided to park in the Millennium Square car park by Bristol Harbourside and made the short walk up to the theatre. The theatre building is strikingly pretty from the outside with its traditional style which carries on to the interior and appears to be well maintained without affecting its original character.

We collected our tickets from the box office and the staff made it hassle free and were very friendly. Even the quick bag check at the entrance to the theatre was carried out by a welcoming member of security staff. Once we were through the theatre doors, we were then shown to our seats by an usher.

Once we were seated, we looked up to see an amazingly sparkly set on the stage much to my daughter’s delight. This Cinderella pantomime was set in snow and ice so all of the scenes were stunning and featured a heavy amount of glitter.

The show began with a Torvill and Dean performance which was excellent and their routines throughout the show continued to be brilliant. Before going to the pantomime, we wondered how the show was going to work as Torvill and Dean are famous for their abilities on ice, however, in the show they are on inline skates and their performance was just as good as if they were on ice.

Our favourite characters were the Ugly Sisters, Wasabi and Saffron, played by Tim Hudson and Charles Brunton. Wasabi and Saffron played the pantomime dame role and were wickedly funny. Our other favourite was Prince Charming’s hilariously camp manservant Dandini played by Samuel Holmes. Buttons played by comedian Jarred Christmas added some extra humour to the show to ensure we were laughing throughout the evening.

If you want a fun family night out with laughing and dancing then this is definitely the show for you. Torvill and Dean fans will love this pantomime as it is a rare chance to see the best ice dancers of all time up close. We loved watching Cinderella at Bristol Hippodrome and our evening was made extra special by some breath taking Torvill and Dean performances. This was my daughter’s first ever time at the theatre and I am sure it is one she will remember forever.
