In series 5 joker and womaniser Jacko (Karl Howman) returns after being gone for 6 weeks to find his business ‘Splosh’ on the verge of collapse. He decides to sell up and return to work for Bainbridge’s as a painter and decorator and work alongside his brother-in-law.
Meanwhile his friend Elmo returns from Australia a very rich man after his dog found opals while they were out looking for gold. Elmo decides he needs a new business and opens up Elmo Putney’s Wine Bar – the all pink ‘classy’ wine bar where he hires the very grumpy stuck up Leslie to bring in the posh customers.
While on a job Jacko meets Lucia and gets tricked into proposing to her and now has to find a way to get out of it without upsetting her large Italian family.
In series 6 Giles and Gloria are now married and living in the country while Veronica has been set up with Marcelo, the uncle of Jacko’s bride-to-be, and is happily in love. Jacko’s life starts to fall apart when she decides to sell the business and move to Sicily and Jacko’s sister decides to sell up and move leaving Jacko homeless.
Meanwhile Elmo has met 5 lovely young ladies in a casino and decides to take them all off on a cruise leaving Leslie with a free hand to redesign the wine bar.
With everyone moving on and up what is to become of Jacko?
Overall, Brush Strokes is a very light-hearted sitcom that while not overly funny is good fun to watch. With a variety of great characters to accompany the loveable Jacko it is a good nostalgic comedy from the 80s/90s.
If you love 80s sitcoms you will love Brush Strokes.
