Billed as a show for children, but definitely fantastically entertaining for adults as well, Brave MacBeth is a wonderful production from Captivate Drama. A collaboration between Sally Lyall and Tommie Travers (and Shakespeare) with funny dialogue and brilliant music that gets stuck in your brain.

The small cast play several roles each to tell the story of MacBeth who meets The Witches upon returning from battle and is told he would be King. Unfortunately, the current King was alive, well and wasn’t going to die any time soon. Brave MacBeth tells the tale of what MacBeth would do to become King.

This show is such a mix, classic slapstick makes it funny for children in the audience whilst introducing them to Shakespeare. Modern references to Facebook and more “adult mentality” jokes make it entertaining for everyone else. I particularly enjoying the “Good Guys Lament” which was hilarious and also showed off some of the casts terrific singing voices (listen for the Witches backing singing). The acting was of such a high standard, everyone was fantastically confident I was very impressed with Captivate Drama’s ability to capture the audience and draw them into the story.

This was a fantastic production and I cannot recommend this show enough if you are near Broughton High School, or have a car to attend this Fringe Venue. I wish this production had a venue closer to the other Fringe Venues as it would get the praise and reviews it deserves.

Brave MacBeth is on until the 11th of August. Captivate Drama also have other productions at The Fringe: Les Miserables, Oliver! and Rent. Check The Fringe website for details.
