My husband and myself went on a date night to review An Evening of Burlesque at St George’s Hall. It is in the centre of Bradford, opposite the Interchange and 5 minutes walk from the train station. We drove there and parked in the NCP Hall Ings car park opposite the theatre, but there are other car parks nearby too.

There was no queuing to get into the theatre, tickets were given with a friendly smile and we were directed to our seats clearly. Our seats were located in the stalls which has no incline to the floor at all so it can sometimes be a bit irritating to have to keep craning your head to see things on stage around the head of the person sat in front of you.

Having never been to a Burlesque show before I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had an idea of what Burlesque was but not how it would fill a whole show. The show was hosted by the wonderful Lady Alex; who pulled the whole show together. Part hostess, part comedienne, part performer she kept the audience’s attention between acts and often came down from the stage to interact with us and to teach us a few burlesque moves!

The acts were fantastic. The dancers pulled off the traditional moves you would expect and were brilliant at it, but for me there is only so many different ways someone can take their clothes off while dancing so I did find the dance acts towards the end a little repetitive, although still good to watch.

The show also included a few non-burlesque acts such as contortionists, fire-eaters and an absolutely fantastic comedian who was the highlight of the show for me. I laughed throughout his entire act and my jaw was aching by the end.

An Evening of Burlesque is definitely worth a visit by over 18’s only. I’d recommend it for a date night, hen night, or just a night out with a bit of a difference.
