With the weather we have been having recently I was very pleased when the Colour-in Christmas Tree Advent Calendar from Eggnogg arrived in the post, what a life saver for a rainy day coming up to Christmas.
Having been drifting round the house looking for something to do my son was soon running for his colouring pens and pencils on opening the small parcel and expecting the contents. The calendar comes folded around A5 size and opens up into one large sheet of heavy duty paper. The Christmas Tree itself is printed in the centre of the sheet with the background already green and it takes up the majority of the page, with a thick dotted line around it showing where to cut out. On the outside of this line are additional decorations to colour and cut out such as baubles, holly and snowmen.
The advent calendar has the days of Christmas on 1-24, not Christmas Day, all in plain boxes to be coloured in, strangely there were some that are double up such as 2 number thirteens which confused my son somewhat but we decided as it was only November we were going to colour in all the decorations and leave the numbers to the actual day itself. This kept my son quiet for hours, picking out all the robins, then the holly, reindeers and baubles etc. was his preferred way of doing it and the way they are drawn on you just think you have finished when you spot another which kept him entertained.
The calendar is designed to be hung on a door with a backing of battery operated Christmas lights (not included) behind shining through designated holes which are marked on the tree. In reality I’m not sure how well it will hang with the lights behind whilst you are continuing to colour the days but we shall see on December the 1st. Whether the hanging works or not this is a great piece of pre-Christmas entertainment that will keep the children occupied right up to the 24th, I really enjoyed it too and it worked well as family bonding time, sitting round the table together colouring and talking about Father Christmas.
I think the Eggnogg Colour-in Christmas Tree Advent Calendar would work equally well for both younger or older children and whether you have an only child or a large family it’s a great product.
