We always enjoy a visit to the Grove Theatre in Dunstable partly due to how easy it is to park in its onsite car park which is just a short walk from the main complex. There are a handful of bars close by and many other amenities a short drive away making it easy to eat before or after the show. The staff at the Grove are always friendly and helpful which just adds to the pleasant ambience of this small and welcoming theatre. We were visiting on this occasion to see the comedian Jethro, who was coming to the end of a 3 month long UK wide tour.

We always like to arrive early and enjoy a drink at the Stalls Bar within the Grove, this time was very much worth it… Jethro himself came out to chat to the audience! He shook our hands and stayed for a quick chat with my husband and I, joking throughout the conversation of course! That was such a treat and most definitely made the evening a little bit special.

Jethro was supported on tour by singer Shaun Perry who opened the show with a few songs. Whilst he’s a talented singer and musician and he chose a good range of sings, it did just feel like we were waiting for him go finish and for Jethro to come on stage. However just 10 minutes later Jethro’s act began and we we’re treated to nearly a full hour of comedy, I have quite literally never laughed so much! Jethro’s jokes are very rude, sometimes crude and he took his trousers off twice and yet this clever Cornish comedian doesn’t insult or take it too far… just adds the right amount of rudeness to shock a little and make you laugh out loud continuously!

Through the interval, Jethro again appeared and this time was surrounded by many of his fans where he happily posed for photos and seemed to chat away as if he was simply out for a fun night like we were! The second half of the show this time gave a mix of music from Sean again but this was sometimes joined by Jethro again who then took over the guitar and delivered laugh after laugh to music.

Jethro has one more date in this current tour and can be seen at Exmouth Pavilion on December 8th 2015.

Rating: 4/5
