I was very pleased to be chosen to review The Magic of the Beatles starring Beatlemania at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable last night.

We arrived at the theatre and parked in the free car park. We walked over to the theatre in a matter of minutes and arrived in the very light and welcoming foyer of the theatre where there were lots of people enjoying a drink with friends while waiting to go in to the show. We went straight to reception where we were handed our tickets by a very friendly receptionist. We then went into the auditorium after being directed to our seats by another friendly member of staff. Our seats were situated in the middle of the auditorium with an excellent view of the stage.

At 8 o’clock the curtain rose and the show started to rapturous applause. The Beatles were on the stage, dressed in the familiar black suits they wore when they made it to stardom in the 60’s. They started their tribute with some of their early hits like ‘She loves you’ and ‘Can’t buy me love’ which the crowd loved. Everybody was singing and clapping along to each song they sung, not only did they look like the Beatles, they sounded like them too and the interaction with the audience was good with their cheeky Liverpudlian accents. After singing loads of songs and a costume change the curtain came down on the first half.

We went to the bar for refreshments and was served by a lovely bubbly young lady after only a couple of minutes waiting.

The Beatles started the second half of the show dressed for their ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ tribute and sang a lot of hits from the album. Each one of them sang solo songs and the playing of instruments was brilliant. They changed clothes again and continued to wow the audience with hits such as ‘Yellow Submarine’ and ‘Hey Jude’ everybody young and old was still up dancing and thoroughly enjoying themselves. I would give this a 5 star rating and recommend it as a great evening’s entertainment.

Rating: 5/5 thumbs_up
