Yesterday evening I visited the Lowry Theatre in Salford, Manchester with my sixteen year old cousin Lilli, to watch Sony award winning duo Dan and Phil’s The Amazing Tour Is Not on Fire. I was not really sure what to expect, but my cousin is a massive fan of the YouTube and radio sensations and was extremely excited at the prospect of seeing them live on stage.
The full to capacity audience consisted mostly of young teenagers, greeting Dan and Phil with rapturous applause, who proceeded to entertain us with crazy anecdotes and sketches which clearly linked to their style of entertainment on YouTube. Special effects, flashing lights and smoke added to the entertainment, along with comedy and audience participation. Some of the fans had made gifts for Dan and Phil, who brought the items on stage and showed them to the audience. This went down well and showed the high regard which they have for their fans. They clearly have a good working relationship, having made YouTube videos together for years and this is demonstrated on stage.
It is always a pleasure to visit the Lowry Theatre. It is a stunning, modern, very accessible building with riverside views. We travelled there by bus, as the transport links are very good, with both trams and buses close by. On arrival, the pleasant staff directed us to our seats and ensured that we were comfortable.
We both had a highly entertaining evening, with lots of laughter. I would recommend this show to fans of the duo, which seems to be mainly teenagers and young adults.
