We went to the Venue Cymru in Llandudno on September 1st to see Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar. I travelled with my partner with anticipation as we both remembered the television version of this performance from our school days (a few years ago now!).

We arrived at Venue Cymru in plenty of time and found to our delight ample free roadside parking within a one minute walk to the theatre, a large onsite pay and display car park is also available for £3 for up to four hours parking.

After a pleasant introduction with the theatre box office staff, we were given our tickets and told we could pop upstairs to the restaurant for interval drinks, very welcome indeed.

With plenty of time on our hands before the performance we decided to have a drink in the bar, the theatre really is a lovely place not seeming to busy, but a pleasant stream of people buzzing about the venue made for a lively atmosphere.

The seats we had were fantastic ROW S in the centre raised stalls, a perfect view of the stage.

Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of the last 7 days of the life of Jesus.

As soon as the lights dimmed and the orchestra began the memory came flooding back of this production from my youth, the cast entered the stage and the atmosphere changed immediately, there really was a special feeling inside the theatre and I am sure all of the audience felt it too.

From the first to the last, the quality of the performances by the cast, both individually and collectively was absolutely fantastic, faultless vocal performances from all, notably Jesus, Herod and especially the amazing Judas.

The music and songs are extremely catchy with a great tempo making the scenes roll along beautifully.

The performance was approximately 125 minutes long, with a 15 minute interval.

I would recommend this show to mainly older children and adults, the final scene of the crucifixion was very moving but also very dark and sad, a testament to the actors performances during this scene. Both my husband and I were very touched by the finale.

We both thoroughly enjoyed both the performance and the venue, and would highly recommend catching the show if the opportunity arises and we would definitely use this theatre again.
