We went to Twinlakes on Sunday 24 May 2015. We arrived shortly after its 10am opening and were able to park with ease in its spacious free car park that had staff members directing and assisting the traffic flow.

One of the first things we noticed was the friendly, enthusiastic staff (called Rangers) we encountered many throughout the day and all had the same professional attitude and were happy to interact with us and our children (even though they had to wear underpants over their trousers as part of the superhero theme taking place at the park).

The park itself is set out in a wide expanse encompassing several zones, each with a different theme:

Excalibur adventure zone: this gives a medieval feel with a play castle, a knights jousting ride, dungeon maze and a jesters teacup ride.

Phoenix bird of prey centre: an aviary of raptors including a Golden Eagle, Harris Hawks, Vultures and other birds, with two daily displays outside (weather permitting).

Creepy critter zone: a reptile house with lizards, snakes and spiders, again with meet and greet sessions.

Animal zoo farm: a petting zoo with the animals you expect to find in a traditional farm as well as some more exotic creatures. Here you can feed the lambs (which our girls loved), watch pig racing (pig behaviour permitting) and many other animals.

Labyrinth Venture zone: we spent the most time in here, this is a covered area with a giant soft play section and our favourite ride, the “Trauma tower” which our girls went on a total of eleven times!

Maize maze zone: a seasonal area in the cornfield by the animal zoo, we didn’t go in here as it wasn’t ready yet.

Canada Keys zone: this is on the Twinlakes themselves, one lake for pedalos, the other for rowboats, along with some zip line playgrounds.

Ao Guang Dragon zone: this area has a fantastic water splash park play area which in the middle of the hot summer would be excellent. There is also a log flume in this zone.

Buccaneers Island zone: an indoor pirate themed area ideal for younger adventurers as a lot of the rides in here are more sedate and have maximum height limits. This is also home to the new “Wind in the Willows” water ride which we enjoyed as a family.

Action U.S.A. Zone: an adventure playground for the energetic, and a Wild West themed setting with a rollercoaster, powered boats, and a toboggan slide.

We went on the majority of the rides and attractions available (some at least twice) and although busy we never had to queue for more than 10 minutes for any ride.

The facilities in the park were for the most part clean and tidy, toilets are well situated and picnic areas are plentiful.

We also liked the daily activities available which included the animal feeding, falconry display (a personal favourite) and for the holidays a Disney Frozen singalong with a meet and greet with “Anna” and “Elsa” (which our Disney mad girls loved).

Overall we enjoyed our time at the park, it is a lovely place to take younger children but I feel that teenagers would get bored very quickly as the rides are not as adrenalin fuelled as the much larger and better budgeted theme parks, that said, it is a family friendly place with an all-inclusive entry price that is very reasonable if tickets are bought online in advance, we would return again if the opportunity arises in the future.

23-31 May 2015 is Superhero Half-Term at Twinlakes.
