A fresh but true to story adaptation of Charles Dickens by Alastair Cording.

The talented cast of 8 take on numerous roles (with the exception of Jack Wilkinson who plays David Copperfield) and they bring the larger than life characters to the stage in this easy to follow show. At just under two and a half hours long the script is somewhat condensed, but it works well and is easy to follow.

I haven't read or watched David Copperfield for some years, and could only really remember Peggotty and Mr Micawber. It soon came back to me though as the play opens with the cast’s story telling of what has gone before, an excellent touch in my eyes.

All the actors play their parts with ease. With outstanding performances from Kieran Buckeridge as the creepy skin crawling Uriah Heap and the smooth Steerforth, and Tim Treslove as the loud, financially inadequate Micawber , Tim also takes the roles of Murdstone and Daniel Peggotty. Alison Heffermans set designs were simple but effective and the use of the cart as a prop in each scene was sheer genius! The lighting and costumes are excellent as is the sound. The pebbles being thrown into the sea made me smile.

David Copperfield will appeal to an audience from any generation. There was a wide age group range on the evening I attended.

Director Kevin Shaw has done a fantastic job of bringing this fabulous tale to the stage.

We loved it and would recommend you go and see it for yourself.
