The Bekonscot Model Village and Railway is a charming attraction for all ages. I visited with my partner and two sons aged 6 & 4 and I think we all enjoyed it as much as each other! It took around 45 minutes to walk around the model village, we probably could have taken our time more but the children were so excited to see the next thing that they moved around quite quickly! The great thing is that once you’ve paid you’re entrance fee you can look around the village as many times as you like so we could’ve gone back had we have wanted to.

We’re quite local to the Model Village, I used to go there when I was a child and I have also taken my children prior to this visit. What I love is that there’s always something new or something you haven’t noticed before or have forgotten about. My children seem to be at a perfect age now to really enjoy and take everything in whilst us adults were able to enjoy the smaller details such as amusing shop names! And there really is great attention to detail.

Once we’d enjoyed walking round the main attraction (including a great view from up above by climbing up some purpose built steps) we went to the play area which is by the café. There’s also a large outdoor picnic area (as well as somewhere to store picnics while you walk round) should you need it – great for families wanting to keep costs down.

The play area was enjoyed by my two boys but I have to say I think it’s most suited for 8 years and under just because of the size and type of equipment on offer. There are other attractions on offer at an additional cost – my boys enjoyed the Pirate (Water) Blaster.

There’s lots of seating and we were able to relax with a hot drink while the children played. The village wasn’t particularly busy on our visit but I have been when it has been busier and there is still a relaxed vibe which is a nice contrast to other attractions.

We finished our visit with a ride on the railway train. This cost £1 per person which I thought was reasonable for a quick ride. Of course the children loved it.

On exiting the Model Village there is a gift shop although you don’t have to walk through this to get out (so pester power can be avoided!). We didn’t buy anything but it was well stocked with gifts ranging in price so suitable for all budgets.

We spent 2 and a half hours in total at the Model Village but I have spent longer on previous visits, taking a picnic with us for lunch.

The place is really well maintained and very clean and tidy which makes for a really enjoyable visit.

What’s also great is the new pricing for 2015 – between 3.30pm-5.30pm the tickets are over half price. All profits are also donated to charity which I think is lovely.

Rating: 5/5 thumbs_up
