Last night we went along to the lovely Royal and Derngate in Northampton to watch the comedy One Man, Two Guvnors. Parking is a breeze as St Johns St multi-storey car park. And at £1 for the whole evening, parking prices were also very reasonable!

The Derngate was very busy and seats seemed to be very nearly sold out.

Now to the play itself, if you like slapstick and enjoy having your tongue firmly in your cheek, then this is definitely the play for you. Boasting no less than 3 former members of Eastenders and a fantastically energetic performance of Gavin Stokes as Francis Henshaw, the fantastic cast offer belly laughs from beginning to end. One man, Two Guvnors plays on all the classic themes that have been played out on stages since time immemorium. Double suicide for star crossed lovers, a case of mistaken identity and a girl pretending to be a boy… ring any bells?!

Each scene is broken up by a 4 piece skiffle band, who you first see playing a number of songs before the first scene start. Throughout the play all of the main actors also appear between scenes, some singing, others plying steel drums or the xylophone!

This fast paced comedy can’t fail to have even the most slapstick weary viewer (me) laughing out loud. Well worth the ticket price.
