The Wind Through The Keyhole by Stephen King Review

Reviewed by Catherine Briercliffe
As a big fan of Stephen King but a little reluctant to buy the Dark Tower series of books because I was concerned they would not interest me, I was eager to review this book even though it is the seventh in the series. How glad I am that I did!! The foreword in the book explains that The Wind Through The Keyhole should fit inbetween books five and six but would also make a good introduction to the series for first time readers of Dark Tower novels. How completely true this seems to be. From the very beginning you are introduced to the key characters on their journey to reach the Dark Tower, but just enough to develop an interest in the characters and their mission. This mission is then put on hold as the main character of, I presume, the whole series tells his colleagues two tales from his past while they take refuge from a freezing storm or starkblast as it is called in the book. These two tales make up most of the book and provide the intriguing reading which Stephen King is renowned for. It is certainly a fine book which falls into the fantasy horror genre and is easy but compelling reading. I found, as I most often do with King novels, that once picked up it is difficult to put down. If anyone like me has doubts about this series, read The Wind Through The Keyhole first to get an insight into the characters and their mission and if this does not appeal to you then the two tales at least should. I am now off to buy the rest of the series.
Excellent.
