My 8 year old daughter was very excited to get the chance to review the Cra-Z-loom Bracelet Maker from Character Online. Many of her school friends had already been making the loom bracelets and she was excited to get the chance to make her own.

The box comes with everything you need to get started: the loom, a weaving hook, 600 assorted latex-free rubber bands, 25 “s” clips and instructions.

The instructions explained how to start and end the bracelets and how to make 3 different styles of bracelet. It was tricky to get started but my daughter took her time and I went through the instructions with her.

The first time she made each of the bracelets it was a slow process and we had to carefully read and follow the instructions.

The loom is numbered to make following the instructions easier however the numbers are very small and hard to read.

After making one of each style of bracelet my daughter quickly picked up the technique and was able to make the bracelets very quickly. The bracelets are the latest craze at school and many of the children (boys and girls) are making them for each other as friendship bracelets. A few of the teachers have also been spotted wearing the bracelets!

The loom is not only for making bracelets as we have had rings, bracelets, necklaces, belts and even a skipping rope. Beads and charms (which aren’t included) can also be added to the jewellery. The loom is necessary for the more complicated bracelets, however my daughter has discovered that she can make the easier style using only her fingers. This has been great at entertaining her whenever we are out and about. We have found a number of You Tube Videos which show even more complicated styles.

You do get 600 bands with the kit which does go far, however as my daughter has been making lots of jewellery for her friends we have had to buy quite a few refill sets which can be obtained quite cheaply (around £1.99 for a basic refill pack up to £9.99 for the Ultimate Refill Pack).

I would highly recommend this kit for any little girl. As it can be quite tricky to make the more complicated bracelets I would agree which the manufacturers recommendation that it is suitable for 8 years plus.

The cost of the kit is £14.99 which is well worth it as it will last for a long time and the refill sets are cheap in comparison.
