My partner and I are intrigued by the art of illusion, so we were very excited to be able to see Derren Brown live on stage on at The Lowry theatre in Manchester on his Infamous tour.
We arrived at the theatre and were quickly shown to our seats by the helpful staff. We were greeted by the amazing set, which set the scene of an eerie cathedral. This helped create illusion throughout the show.
Derren pleaded with us not to disclose any of the contents of the two and a half hour show. This was the first time that we had seen him live and were faced with a with witty, confident performer who draws you in with his amazing techniques and fantastic ‘mind-control’.
Derren’s performance included mind reading, illusion, hypnotism and communicating with ‘spirits’. He kept the 2,500 strong audience engrossed throughout with his interactive and engaging personality.
The techniques he used in his hypnotist performance were very professional and when picking members of the audience to participate he used a Frisbee to select random people and they would throw it on again to select other participants.
The tricks, which involved intricate details, were filmed by a cameraman and projected onto the back of the stage to allow the audience to see.
I had an amazing night watching Derren perform and my partner was picked at random twice to be involved in the show, which further leads me to believe that there aren’t any stooges involved in the show.
I would definitely recommend going to see Derren Brown’s Infamous show.
