I won’t be the only one who associates a Terry’s Chocolate Orange with Christmas stockings (or Dawn French if you’re of a similar age) so I was really pleased to see that they had branched out into Easter eggs! Apparently for several years now, but I hadn’t tried them. I wanted to see how the chocolate tasted in a different form, as the iconic orange segments are one of those things that our brains expect to look and feel a certain way. One of my earliest memories was counting out the pennies I’d collected to see if I had enough to buy one for my mum, so it will always be loved in our house.

The name Terry’s comes from confectioner Joseph Terry who joined a small shop in York, in 1823. The shop itself, had been selling candied orange peel from 1767! The iconic chocolate orange wasn’t invented until 1932, before that? There was the chocolate apple! Is it any wonder that this brand is so engrained in our lives. On their website, you can find some really cool recipes using products from the different ranges. I have included the link below.

They sent me a box full of the Terry’s Easter range. I was expecting one of two items, but was sent seven. Best day ever. Four were eggs, and three from their expanded range. The egg boxes were eye catching and would look great on the shelf.

I have coeliac disease, so finding good, gluten free Easter treats is hit and miss. Some brands have a huge range of ingredients and may contains, so I was really pleased to see that there were no gluten containing ingredients in any of the products, the chocolate eggs themselves, and the mini eggs were may contains for soya and nuts. The exploding candy chocolate, the bar and the crème filled eggs were may contain for wheat, soya and nuts. So I was a little more careful with those.

Large Exploding Candy Egg

This one is really good, proper sized egg, and the classic chocolate orange chocolate. I loved it, it was the perfect thickness and you could definitely taste the orange!
With this, came a full sized exploding candy chocolate orange. This was a may contain, so I didn’t eat lots of it. The exploding pieces were crackly and fun! The kids loved it (and finished it off hehe) . I was impressed that the orange was full sized too, as often you’re fobbed off with miniature versions of things. Well done Terry’s. 5 out of 5.

Medium Chocolate Orange Egg

This was my favourite! A classic chocolate orange egg, and also inside the box, a small bag of chocolate orange mini eggs! The eggs were smooth and delicious, with an orange flavour to them. The bag was a good size for a snack. 100% worth it. 5 out of 5, easily.

Medium White Chocolate Orange Egg

I hadn’t tried the white chocolate orange before, but I really enjoyed it. I have to admit, I did struggle to share this one and almost ate the whole thing in one sitting!

The mini eggs had the same orange shell as the others, but the insides were white chocolate orange chocolate. They were a nice contrast, a bit sweeter than the original ones, and smoother. Again, an easy 5 out of 5.

Small Exploding Candy Egg

This was a small egg, the same chocolate as the above. Inside, were three small segments with popping candy. I do love it when the eggs have something inside, it used to be one of my favourite parts of the egg when growing up. Having these loose inside was definitely nostalgic. 5 out of 5!

Pack of four Orange Crème Eggs

These smell amazing! So orangey. The cream inside is smooth and not runny like in other crème filled eggs. Almost like the thicker crème fillings in boxes of chocolates. It is really sweet, (the kind of sweet that tickles the back of your nose) but not as orangey as the outer shell. I liked them overall, but they’re a little sickly for me. They did make my mouth a little itchy too, but I think it was just how sweet they were. I give these 3/5 stars

Bag of Chocolate Orange Mini Eggs

I think that I actually prefer these to other brands mini eggs. They’re much, much cheaper, and still have that silky smooth texture which can be really addictive. They have just the right amount of orange in them. The shell made me smile though, they’re bright orange. I assume it’s the combination of natural colourings used, but they were very bright. I’d definitely buy these again, and am going to swap out my usual purchase for these this Easter. 5 out of 5 for these, I’d rate them much higher if I could.

Chocolate Orange Exploding Candy Bar

4/5 stars. I loved the texture of the chocolate and the little pieces inside. I didn’t eat too much of this due to the may contain, but my husband and children all really enjoyed it.

Rating: 4/5

I particularly loved that the eggs tasted like actual chocolate orange! Just thinner!
Each item has a different price point across different stores, which means that it can be hard to say if they’re worth the money when there are so many different offers in play. What I will say, is that I’d happily pay full RRP for each item in the range, as I felt the quality and satisfaction was there. None of the items felt cheaply made, like some others on the market.

As a family, we gave the range 5 out of 5 stars. When we went shopping, it was a shame that we didn’t see many of the different eggs on the shelves, and couldn’t find the white one anywhere. So hopefully, the range will be more popular with awareness.

Rating: 5/5 overall
