As a mum of two young children we have our fair share of dolls, doll accessories and doll prams. I knew my children would however be delighted to receive and help me review the Baby Born Push Along Berta. Part of the well known and loved Baby Born range, this addition to the wide range is a trike style ride on for any of the dolls. Its uniqueness comes from the endearing duck shape known as ‘Berta’ which forms the trike shape and seat for your doll to sit on.
Upon opening, the trike style push a long is easy to assemble, made up of just a few parts. This was great as my own little ones were impatiently waiting as I opened it up so were able to just it in just a few moments.
The duck trike is bright and colourful without being too much for the adult eye. Its simple colour palate is of a traditional duck and creates a unisex toy. Underneath the doll’s seat is a clever storage area to allow your child to bring a long a few necessary accessories. I appreciated this feature which increases its functionality and attention to detail. The duck wings create little footrests for the doll’s feet whilst adding to the character of the toy, and tiltable handle for baby doll gives it more of a realistic appeal.
The trike is advertised as for 3 years plus, however with adult supervision it seems appropriate for any walking toddler or child to be able to use. The handle bar, which acts as a back rest for baby doll, is cleverly extendable for additional height. The trike moves seamlessly and a gentle push from a little hand ensures the ‘push a long’ functions well, with smooth and easy steering. I liked this about this trike as even for an adult there is a certain joy in being able to push something so effortlessly and it certainly prevented any tears from little hands not being able to control or move it. The attached backrest can easily be slid up or down the handle to adjust to which doll is going for a ride.
My other favourite feature is the wheels, which upon moving are rattles, providing an additional sensory element to the trike. The trike is also designed to stand securely leant back a little, facilitating easy storage. The adjustable and removeable handle height also means it can be stored away more easily (the trike itself is actually surprising compact).
Berta is well designed to fit with any of the baby born dolls which are 43cm or less in height. Although we don’t have it unfortunately, the BABY born Teddy is also suitable to have a ride! Some of our other branded plastic dolls unfortunately didn’t fit which was a shame but understandable of the brand.
The push a long appears to be priced mid-range within doll prams and push along. For me the plastic is a little off putting but does provide a long lasting material which I have no doubt means this toy has many, many years of play. All dolls and accessories must be purchased separately so ideal as a gift for a child who already owns a doll from the baby born collection. We were lucky enough to receive a doll (Baby Born Emma) as part of a separate review and the pairing of these items was perfect!
