For the first time in its 175-year history, the State Ballet of Georgia comes to London with a classic production of Swan Lake, accompanied by the English National Opera Orchestra.
To me, Swan Lake is a fairy tale I was aware of from a young age, with music written by Tchaikovsky. Until this performance, I had never had the privilege of seeing it.
I was thrilled to attend a performance with my companion; it was another tick on my bucket list. I wanted to find out if this production has a happy, ever-after ending or a more sad ending. I will leave it to you to find out!
Each cast member was dressed in lavish, majestic costumes, and the ballerinas seamlessly performed each dance accompanied by enchanting music.

The set was spectacular and probably one of the most beautiful sets I have ever seen. It featured different scenes and backgrounds and a spectacularly large and wide stage.
The scene and costume changes perfectly fit the changing scenes and help us understand the story.
All of the scenes and dances were amazing, but the Black Swan pas de deux was the stand-out performance for us. It requires an extensive level of skill proficiency, and I don’t think you can fully appreciate the time spent perfecting this dance.
The theatre was filled with awe and magic.
The performance is approximately two hours and fifteen minutes long with an interval. We felt that this was the perfect amount of time for the performance and kept the audience captivated.
A big shout out to the orchestra and the conductor for the music bringing the performances to life.
During the interval, the queues to use the bathroom facilities and access the refreshments moved quickly.
The bathrooms were spotless and spacious. The refreshments were reasonably priced, and various drinks and snacks were available. There was cold water available for self-service.
The theatre’s air conditioning kept the temperature perfect throughout the evening, which was appreciated on a warm, humid evening.
The London Coliseum has excellent transport links, with the tube, train, and bus within a few minutes’ walk.
The London Coliseum is a beautiful building with 2,359 seats and is the largest theatre in the West End
There is an on-site access team to help with various needs.
We give Swan Lake State Ballet of Georgia at the London Coliseum 5*. From start to finish, you will feel encapsulated in magic. If, like us, you have never attended a ballet before, this is a perfect introduction. You will leave hooked and wanting to book another performance. We feel very lucky to have seen this performance and have beautiful evening memories.
