My husband and I were both excited at the prospect of reviewing this performance. We both love the 80’s. This is the era of our teenage/youth years. Believe me, neither of us were disappointed. I cannot put into words just how truly amazing the performance was. Non-stop amazing songs with great vocals and fantastic dancers.
The performance kicked off with Frankie goes to Hollywood and a couple of his many popular songs such as Relax. They covered most of the popular 80’s stars such as The Thompson Twins, Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran, Madonna, Adam Ant, Marc Almond, Human League, Holly Johnson, Kim Wild, Cindy Lauper, Erasure, Madness, Toni Basil, Wham, Nena, Culture Club, Boy George, Aha, Soft Cell and more.
My personal favourite had to be Respect, I just love that song. I had to get up onto my feet.
Audience participation was great, the performers really got everyone either up on their feet or jigging in their seat. The outfits worn by the singers were true representations of the artists and the era. It was just like being back in the 80’s and watching Top of the Pops, but being live within the true setting. There were shell suits, lace, fingerless gloves, leg warmers, Rara dresses, cheerleaders, frilly skirts, masks. The dancers were fun to watch and so full of energy. The stage settings were great. Everyone within the band was talented and played with ease.
The venue was a full house by the look of it, with a wide range of ages. Refreshments were reasonably priced and offered a wide selection. Toilets were easily accessible and hygienically clean. All staff were welcoming, friendly, helpful and polite.
Ticket prices are comparable with other venues. The venue’s architecture is so pretty to look at both inside and out. Good parking is on offer close by, some of which is free of charge.
We had a great night, thank you Buxton Opera House and the stars of 80’s Mania.
