Last night What’s Good To Do has been back to the Northern Stage to enjoy another great play, it was Noises Off.
This farcical comedy centres on a group of actors cobbled together by the incredibly droll and sarcastic director Lloyd Dallas as they are about to embark on a nationwide tour of “Nothing On” – a comedic romp set in an English country house.
The play is shown over three acts. Act 1 begins with an introduction to the play ‘Nothing On’ at a final dress rehearsal where Lloyd is starting to lose patience with his less than perfect actors, with the casts inabilities to remember lines, and pick up and take away props leaving Lloyd increasingly frustrated. This act sets the seen for the tour ahead.
Act 2 begins a month into the tour with us seeing behind the stage where the actors are losing patience with each other, getting into arguments and disagreements. Things are definitely beginning to escalate…
The tour of ‘Nothing On’ is coming to an end in Act 3 where we are now the audience in the final showing in Stockton on Tees. This shows their off stage rivalries and disagreements completely take over their on stage personas resulting in a hilarious catastrophe of a play.
Noises Off at Northern Stage was a fantastically funny production that had the whole audience were in fits of laughter especially during Act 3 with the backstage dramas spilling over onto the stage. The comedic timings of door slamming, whiskey hiding, and sardine throwing is simply brilliant.

All the cast in this production were fantastic, everyone played their part in making this a highly enjoyable play. It really is a testament to the clever writing and acting quality to execute everything flawlessly but make it appear to be mistake after mistake and an ad-libbed performance.
Highly recommended – an absolute must see!
Tickets cost from £14.50 to £25 (booking fees may apply).
