I don’t drive and do lots of walking and while I try to buy decent supportive footwear, I never think about the socks to wear with them, often ending up with terrible blisters after getting new shoes or boots. Socks are generally something we get for Christmas and then forget about, after all they tend to be hidden under trousers and in shoes and live a lonely existence. When I do buy new socks, I just tend to pick up a pair of cheap sports socks as socks aren’t important, are they?
So, are socks that important? I didn’t think so until I was asked to try out the Heat Walk Socks from 1000 Mile. I have never worn a pair of socks that are so comfortable and cool, they feel like walking on a deep pile carpet.
The 1000 Mile Heat Walk socks are available for men (sizes 6-14 / Medium to XL) and women (sizes 3.5-8.5 / Small and Medium). They are mid-calf length in charcoal colour and ideal for walking about in boots. They contain Merino Wool which is one of softest types of wool available and is perfect for regulating body temperature, have a double layer construction to eliminate friction between your foot and shoe, reducing wear and helping to prevent blisters and uses the unique Nilit® Heat yarn which captures the wears body heat naturally to keep your feet warm. The Nilit® Heat yarn also has excellent absorption and moisture control for a sweat-free sensation, natural anti-bacterial properties and a powerful deodorising effect and made from environmentally friendly yarn – created with coffee charcoal which makes use of the natural surplus from coffee bean shells and integrates into the nylon fibre for a natural insulation. And best of all, they feature all-over padding for maximum comfort.
I have worn these socks a few times now and am very impressed, they really are the most comfortable socks I have ever worn. While out walking I can definitely feel the difference over cheap generic sports socks due to the padding and arch bracing. While wearing these, my feet don’t feel as tired, don’t get as hot or sweaty and feel like they are surrounded in complete luxury. Depending on the temperature outside, they are also keeping my feet cool on hot days and nice and warm on cold days! They have also been washed a few times at 40° and have kept their shape, and still feel just as comfortable as the first day I put them on.
So whilst I previously said socks aren’t important, I’ve changed my mind – they most definitely are. If you are thinking on buying someone socks this Christmas, you can’t go wrong with these. They are comfortable and luxurious and will show that you have actually thought about your gift and not just picked some up on your way around the supermarket. At £17.99 they aren’t cheap, but are definitely worth it – they even come with a guarantee; if you get a blister or the socks wear out in a year from purchase (or 1000 miles) you can get a refund or replacement.
And just for good measure, if you have a few pairs in your drawer for you and you partner, these socks have a feature that let you know what size and fit they are – all just by looking at the colour of the toe stitch seam: green, red and royal are men’s fit M, L, XL while blue and lilac are women’s S, M. This is a fantastic idea and a great way to tell different sizes apart.
These are a fantastic pair of durable and comfortable walking socks (probably the most comfortable you will ever own). Absolutely excellent protection for your feet!
