Bridgedale Wool Fusion Trekker Socks Review

Reviewed by Emma Salmon

I was very pleased to be asked to try out Bridgedale’s wool fusion outdoor socks. I run Forest School so am on my feet all day, in some fairly testing weather conditions, so keeping my feet dry and warm is imperative.

These socks are a technical mix of fabrics – they use endure wool, which is the first spin, and this is the softest and most durable fibre. I’ve long been a fan of wool for its thermal and wicking properties so always prefer to use this fabric for days when I comfort is at a premium – the Endurofill is woven in a particular way to ensure good wicking to keep your feet fresh and dry. The nylon percentage in the mix also ensures durability, and a small amount of Lycra keeps them fitted and in good shape. I really appreciated the double density padding around the foot.

So how did they fair? I was very happy with them – I had case to use them during the recent show and they certainly kept my feet much warmer than the usual socks I wear, so that was a definite plus for me. They also didn’t smell at all at the end of the day, which must have been down to the wool content. The cushioning was wonderful and my feet certainly appreciated that aspect, even after a very challenging couple of days in some quite difficult terrain. I also kept wearing them in the house, and even when the heating was on full my feet didn’t get hot and sweaty – the breathability of wool is fantastic for temperature regulation and breathability.

I have just washed them on a wool wash, and they have held their shape well, which can sometimes be a problem with wool socks. I think these are certainly going to be used a lot so it will be good to see how long they last – they have a 3 year guarantee, which fills me with hope that when it comes to technical socks, this company knows what it is doing.
