The Theatre Royal in Brighton is probably one of my favourite theatres to go to. I love how traditional it is, the ambience, the decor. Even with its traditional appearance it fits in really well in the unique and Diverse Brighton. It really puts you in the right mood for whatever show you are going to see. The staff are always very polite, friendly, extremely well presented and on hand to help with any query that you may have. A bonus is that it’s walking distance from public transport and car parks.
Thriller Live… Michael Jackson, born in 1958 was an American singer, songwriter and dancer. Deservedly called the King of Pop he was undoubtedly a significant icon in the history of music. Everyone knows who he is, even if you aren’t a fan of his music. Michael Jackson’s publicised life started from a very young age and it catapulted him into global stardom. There are still many shows, documentaries and investigations of his life now, over ten years after his death. Michael was the eighth child of the Jackson clan and made his professional debut in 1964 as a member of the Jackson 5. His solo career began in 1971. Michael Jackson is one of the best-selling music artists of all time selling over 350 million records worldwide.
In 2009 Michael Jackson, whilst preparing for a series of tours died from an overdose. Fans around the world expressed their grief and sadness.
I am a big fan of Michael Jackson and his music, spanning throughout his career and including his earlier music. So, the first thing I did when getting my program was to look at the music being performed in both acts. To say I was pleased with the selection would be an understatement. The likes of Billy Jean, Thriller, Beat It, Shake Your Body, Remember the Time and Smooth Criminal were all there, present and correct!
From the start the atmosphere was electric. We were treated to the vocal talents of Adriana Louise, Joseph Thomas, Britt Quentin, Kieran Alleyne and Jason Brock.
These vocalists were supported by a set of incredibly talented musicians. The music was phenomenal. Accompanying both the vocalists and the band was a group of dancers who stole the stage whenever they appeared. They made Thriller Live better for being there. How they kept up the high levels of energy throughout the whole night is beyond me, but they did.
Some stand out performances for me were Britt Quentin, Joseph Thomas and Kieran Alleyene. Britt for his amazing vocal range, Joseph was the whole package: great vocals, dancing and stage presence. Both Britt and Joseph got the audience on their feet with ease. Kieran … wow! With some amazing choreography he kept attention and was captivating to watch dance. A few of the other dancers stood out too for their pure enthusiasm and enjoyment of being on stage, beautiful lines and amazing energy. They were Kia, Joshua, Molly, Ryan and Rihanna.
Thriller Live is a celebration of the Michael Jackson and his music. The King of Pop! It was an excellent tribute to him and the legacy that he has left behind. The audience were on their feet a number of times dancing, it was a giant party. The standing ovation at the end of the show was thoroughly deserved.
