Fiskars Classic General Purpose 21cm Scissors Review

Reviewed by Amanda Hayes

If you looking for a Christmas present for a friend or family member that enjoys crafting look no further than Fiskars. Founded in 1649 in the Finnish village of Fiskars you can be assured of fantastic quality whichever product you purchase. I was sent the Classic Universal scissors to test out, in the large 21cm size. With the striking orange handle synonymous of the Fiskars brand they stood out immediately in my workroom. As I unwrapped them from their simple yet safety conscious packaging I could tell that they felt good quality.

Whilst the handles are large enough to be comfortable even for the largest of hands they don’t lose their precision whilst cutting, giving long even strokes. I first tried these on paper and card where they soon showed their super sharp blade and even cut. I then tried them on fabric, which is where I use scissors the most and can get a disappointing remaining edge. Not with the Fiskars Universal though, no catching the fabric, no jagged edges just a smooth clean cut. The long blade made cutting out even the longest pair of curtains a pleasure and I would happily use them all day long.

Paper, card, fabric, foil, thin plastics, wool whatever your craft these would work brilliantly and come highly recommended as a Christmas gift for someone creative. The other option though, if you have any on your friends or family gift lift, is a present for a budding chef. I found these Classic Universal scissors worked perfectly in the kitchen and not just for chores such as cutting open packaging. They cut quickly and cleanly through chicken skin, snipping sausages, herbs and many other kitchen jobs significantly speeding up the process.

My husband also spotted this Fiskars scissors and soon nabbed them to cut open all his Amazon packaging so having a pair in the drawer for Christmas wrapping and unpacking would also make perfect sense.

I have nothing but praise for the Classic Universal scissors and I would recommend them to anyone for a gift to others or themselves. If you like a more specialist scissor then take a look at the huge range Fiskars do on their website such as embroidery, food and even dedicated left hand scissors there is a pair for everyone.

Highly recommended.
