I honestly don’t know how they chose which photographers — or which images — to feature, because the website is overflowing with truly breathtaking work. Every shot feels alive. These vibrant, still images somehow manage to move you, pulling you straight into the moment the photographer was experiencing. You can almost feel the wind, the light, the stillness, the wildness… exactly as it unfolded right in front of them. Simply lush!
The boxing hares instantly whisked me back to Watership Down, full of character and quiet drama. The icy, snow-capped mountains made me physically shiver — you can almost feel that crisp, biting air. And my favourites, the puffins, had me smiling. Perched together on their shared rock, they look deep in conversation, and I couldn’t help wondering what gossip they were exchanging with those serious little faces.
The calendar itself is a standard size with top half a main photo plus information about the photo, where it was taken and some close ups which I loved and then bottom half the calendar part. The material is very shiny so a white board or sharpie pen would be needed and it is quite flimsy floppy but great for photos of this quality and they are made with responsible sources.
It starts with detailing the publishers and talking all about the John Muir Trust. What an absolutely beautiful way to share their member based conservation charity, which before today I had never heard of. So now I am intrigued to visit Scotland and all these areas of outstanding beauty that are being threatened and I also want to help preserve and protect them too. I love gifts that have meaning and multiple uses.
It’s price range fits with most calendars around and in fact I think is priced quite low for what you get. As I will definitely be cutting some of the images out and using them for pictures around the house. It not only celebrates the wonderful world we live in and highlights Scotland’s offerings in a wonderful way. This calendar, created in association with the John Muir Trust, beautifully reflects their mission, celebrating the landscapes Muir fought for and reminding us why they are still worth protecting.
Far more than an observer, Muir was a farmer, inventor, sheepherder, explorer, and passionate defender of nature. His words opened people’s eyes; his actions inspired environmental movements that continue to this day.
In response to the ongoing threats of erosion and habitat loss, the John Muir Trust was founded in 1983 to uphold the wild land values Muir championed over a century ago. John Muir was one of the most influential naturalists and conservationists of his time — and his legacy still shapes how we understand and protect the natural world today. Through his writing, exploring, and fierce advocacy, he taught generations to slow down, look closely, and truly experience our wild places.
