Get ready to unleash your inner Gen Z with “What Do You Meme” (UK Edition), a game that’s one part strategy, one part laughter, and loads of funny memories waiting to be made. I absolutely love silly games, so I got the family together to give this meme-making game a go, and it left us giggling away while appreciating the mix of amusement and creativity.
The gameplay is both engaging and straightforward. The main goal is to match a caption card from your hand with the photo card on display for the round, on the included “sexy easel”, aiming to create a meme that resonates and amuses everyone. One person chooses the meme photo card, and then the challenge lies in the other players choosing the most fitting and humorous caption from their hand. The meme chooser then picks which caption is the funniest and the player that picked that wins that round. This game seamlessly integrates wit, quick thinking, and comedic timing to create an enjoyable and entertaining experience.
The cards are the heart and soul of this game, offering a wide array of images and captions that span the spectrum of memes, and are good quality. Ranging from classic internet favourites to more contemporary viral sensations, the diverse selection ensures the humour is appealing to a broad audience. Regardless of whether you’re familiar with internet memes or new to the culture, the cards cater to all.
Understanding the rules is really easy as the instructions are clear and succinct, facilitating an easy grasp of the gameplay and allowing players to dive into the meme-creating fun within a matter of minutes. This simplicity enables players to focus on generating funny memes and enjoying the game without unnecessary complications.
Looking at the quality of the box, it’s worth noting its robust construction and design. The box is compact, sturdy, but simply designed with a white background and colourful text stating it is an adult party game for meme-lovers. The box’s durability ensures that the game remains in good condition, making it suitable for repeated use and easy storage.
The intended audience for “What Do You Meme” (UK Edition) is diverse, encompassing meme enthusiasts, comedy lovers, and social media enthusiasts. It is supposed to be for 17+ but we were able to adapt the game a little which allowed me to play a version of it with my slightly younger kids. There are actually a set of extra cards in the box with a warning in front of “mature content” – these were rather rude so we left them out to be able to use the game with the kids however they would a how other level of fun for adults to play the game.
Whether you’re hosting a casual game night with friends, or aiming to break the ice at a gathering, this game therefore promises moments of light-hearted laughter and a shared appreciation for internet humour. It does a great job of reminding a 40 something mum that she doesn’t know internet memes as well as she thought but was still a very funny game to play, but would also be a great gift for someone heading off to University as the primary audience is very much Gen Z, and it’s compact enough to store somewhere in dorms and be pulled out to entertain at a moment’s notice.
