I was over the moon to get a chance to review this as it is one of my favourite shows. Annie Walker is a languages graduate recruited into a covert section of the CSA. The series starts with Annie being thrown in at the deep end on missions and is really gripping. From the start you are hooked by the mystery of flashbacks to Annie’s failed romance overseas and keep watching more to see how that story turns out. The characters are strong and the storyline is beyond gripping. There are often questions you want answers to and the wait to get those answers keeps you on tender hooks. It is wonderful to watch Annie build relationships with her co-workers and her struggle for a balance in work/family life. The character of Annie Walker has amazing chemistry with both regular and other characters, often to the point of a steamy tension. This is particularly true of Annie’s friendship/relationship with Auggie and the mystery surrounding Annie and her mystery man from abroad, who suddenly turns up in the first episode of season 1.

The selection of actors is phenomenal. I have followed many of the main characters in other TV shows and films. The actor who plays Arthur was in the OC, the actor who plays Auggie I keenly followed in Medical Investigation and Jake 2.0, the actress who plays Arthur’s wife was fantastic in Leverage. The actress who plays Annie was in one of my all-time favourite films, Coyote Ugly.

To sum up, Covert Affairs has it all, comedy, suspense, drama, passion, mystery, steamy tension and is one of the most compelling and gripping shows I have ever watched. Once you have watched one episode you want to move straight on to the next, in fact I have now watched series one several times. I cannot wait until series 2 is available on DVD and I hope that this fantastic show continues for many seasons to come.
