I love the irresistible ceramic Wade Fish Jug and I think every home should have one! These charming gluggle jugs bring life and character to any setting and will be the talking point at meal times.
I, myself, have never had too many expectations for February 14, even when I actually receive a gift on Valentine’s Day. But if you are coupled up with someone who loves to invest in the annual festival of love, then you have found this year’s Valentine’s present. Spoiling someone can look different to every couple and these days folk are looking for something a bit different or quirky, to ‘classic’ flowers or chocolates. I believe that you will find that the Wade Fish Jug could be an alternative gift option for 2025.
The Wade Fish Jug is an iconic piece of old England. The jug was created in the 19th century and was initially used to serve drinks, such as water, wine, or ale. The sound that is produced when pouring from the jug is a unique auditory experience and is due to air passing through the jug’s neck and into the base. This is the reason the Wade Fish Jug is known as a ‘Gluggle Jug’! The design of these jugs is over 150 years old and is a novel and iconic cult object of British design.
The Wade Fish Jug is a ceramic jug shaped like a koi fish or cod. These days the jug tends to be used as an ornament, or as a water jug, a vase, a utensil holder, a table decoration and also as a gift for the ‘special person in your life’.
The jug is available in Large or Extra Large and in the following colours: White, Cobalt Blue, Sea Blue, Pale Blue, Turquoise, Dove Grey and Slate Grey. The Extra Large: 1.2 Litre Capacity/38 fl oz (5-6 Tumblers) Height approx. 27cm and the Large: 700ml Capacity/24 fl oz (2-3 Tumblers). Height approx:22cm.
P.S. It is important to note that the handcrafted Wade Pottery Gluggle Jug was supplied directly by Wade, (and is not one of mass produced copies that are currently available across the retail sector and of varying quality) however, the initial jug that was delivered – whilst it was very beautiful and just what I have always wanted – sadly, the jug had a small blemish/defect in the glaze that went through to the ceramic base.
The Wade Customer Service team were amazing, and after receiving a photo of the issue, they very quickly posted a replacement jug and if I could I would increase my review score, I would. Thank you.
