Two of a Kind Review

Morecambe and Wise: Two of a Kind
The Complete First Series

Reviewed by Brian Grehan

Released for the first time on DVD comes the first series of Two of a Kind starring Morecambe and Wise. Although panned by the tv critics of the time this first foray into TV by Britains best ever comedy double act has some very funny comic moments.

The shows all followed a similar format. the pair come out do a bit of comic play to the cameras and the studio audience and then they introduce a jazz band and then round the first half off with a bit more comedy. Jazz bands of the time that featured included Acker Bilks band and Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen.

Other special guests who appeared in the second half of the shows included the Beverley Sisters, Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson. Although this format was probably the norm in those days I found the other artists a distraction from the comedy of Morecambe and Wise.

This DVD is a must for any self respecting fan of the duo. Some of the material will be recognised by fans as it appears in a more polished state in later programmes by them.

Recommended to anyone who likes a good nostalgic laugh of comedy the way it used to be,some of the jokes would not be tolerated today but a definite must for any fan of Morecambe and Wise. 3/5.
