Trekmates Crookstone GTX Hat Review

If like me you are an all weather walker you will know the importance of having the right equipment, especially a versatile hat. The Trekmates Crookstone GTX hat is an ideal choice for headwear. The hat is durably waterproof, breathable and totally wind proof.

Made from 100% polyester with a TPU Gortex coating which is guaranteed to keep you dry it is soft and light, weighing only 80g, with a detachable and adjustable chin strap to keep it firmly in place. The brim is 7cm wide which is enough to protect the neck and shield the eyes and face from both sun and rain. The hat is very well made and the stitching looks strong. Inside the crown is a soft brushed polyester band to ensure it stays in place and it is lined with an all important breathable fabric which offers comfort for the wearer as it wicks moisture. It has a removable and adjustable chin strap to keep it in place in windy conditions.

I ordered the hat in size S/M in grey, which is quite a dark grey. It is also available in L/XL and in navy blue. S/M fits head sizes 22-22.5” or 56-57cm L/XL fits head sizes 23.25-23.75” or 59-60cm.

The fit is of the S/M is perfect for my head. It is snug, but not tight. The colour is great as it will look good with any jacket/fleece/Tshirt and not show dirt easily. This hat can be worn in wet weather to protect from rain or in the sun to keep the head cool and prevent sunburn as it has inbuilt UPF 50+ for protection. In our great British summer I have tested the waterproofing and am delighted that my head remained dry in the heaviest of rain. When I removed it a quick shake removed the rain droplets effortlessly. It is soft and easily folds to fit in a rucksack or pocket and because of the construction it does not crease. It can be hand washed and line dried so easy to keep clean and fresh.

Treckstone was established in 1997 in Nottingham by a father and son who began developing gloves and hats which are suitable for outdoor lovers. Their website says “Where possible we have designed our accessories with multi-functional features to increase versatility and value, being able to be used across many different activities, wherever your adventure takes you.” In addition to the Crookstone GTX, Trekmates also manufacture and supply caps and beanies as well as walking poles, dry packs and many other items designed for those participating in outdoor activities.

In summary this is a very well constructed lightweight hat that can be used in all weathers. I would recommend this hat to anyone who walks in mixed weather conditions who is looking for one item that offers multi protection. I am very pleased to find such a great product that really does what it is supposed to.
