I was delighted to get the chance to stay at the Salford Quays Travelodge last Saturday night. My daughter had gone to Blackpool for the day with her dad. We found the hotel easily and parked in the shared Morrisons/Travelodge car park. The overnight rate for hotel guests is a very reasonable £7. My 2 year old twins and I were greeted by a helpful member of staff. Because it was half an hour until check in, we sat down in the bar/café area and ordered a pizza, chips and some drinks. Whilst sat on the comfy sofa, I took advantage of the 30 minutes free WiFi to check my emails. The food came quickly and was hot and tasty. The pizza cost between £8 and £9 and was big enough for myself and the boys to share. The chip portions were also generous. A lady came over and asked whether we would like the children’s TV programmes put on and I thought this was a lovely touch.

Once we had finished eating, we were able to check in. We had a double room and a family room booked. Reception staff gave us 2 keys for each room. This is always really handy. The boys and I headed for the double room and chilled out there for a while watching TV. We then headed downstairs and sat in the restaurant area with some drinks I purchased. Once again, the staff were great. We were given some large blank sheets of paper and some crayons for the boys. One of my twins sat drawing happily whilst the other explored his surroundings and enjoyed his drink. By this time, one of my twins was crying so we decided to head back upstairs. On the way back up to our room, I asked whether it was possible to order a takeaway to take back upstairs to the room. Whilst room service is not on offer at this particular hotel, on this occasion staff gave me a direct telephone number for the hotel which I could use to order our evening meal via phone from our hotel room. Quickly afterwards our drinks were brought to us, followed 10-15 minutes later by our food.

I opted for a starter of garlic bread with mushrooms on top. My boys had garlic bread for their starter. I had sausage and mash, with extra gravy, for my main course. The boys both had chicken goujons, chips and beans. The boys had frozen yoghurt for dessert and I had a very chocolaty dessert. The starters, mains and desserts, along with a lime and lemonade for myself came to around £35. This I felt was reasonable. The service was fantastic and the food tasty and plentiful.

My daughter arrived back from her trip to Blackpool with her dad and we all popped out of the hotel to the nearby Morrisons. My daughter and her dad bought some buffet style food for their dinner.

We then headed back to the hotel and spent a relaxing evening in the family room.

The double room was plenty big enough and equipped with hot drink making facilities, a high shelf above the wardrobe (always handy to keep things out of the reach of toddlers), a bottle opener attached to the desk, comfy desk chair and a double bed. The bathroom had a shower. A flat screen TV was located on the wall in front of the bed.

The family room was equipped in a similar way, except for that it had a bath with a shower in and 2 beds for the twins to sleep in. The room itself was spotlessly clean.

After a restful night’s sleep we headed downstairs for breakfast. This was an eat as much as you like type arrangement. There was apple, water and orange juice available as well as hot drinks. The kids enjoyed cereal, toast and yoghurt, while us adults tucked into a cooked breakfast. It was cooked to perfection. It did run out of lots of things at one point but was quickly replenished.

All in all, I would recommend this fantastic hotel for its convenient location, fantastic facilities and friendly staff. The staff were particularly good with children. The morning we left, one of the members of staff asked my daughter where her new soft toy was by its name, this is excellent customer service making the guests from at home.

It is conveniently located in between the Trafford Centre and City Centre. There was a lot of traffic around soon after the Manchester United FC football match finished, but this quickly cleared.  I would say that it is suitable for couples, friends, families and business people.

We would not hesitate to stay again.

I can’t fault the service, cleanliness and value for money.
