Tibits Restaurant is a Swiss chain restaurant which has been in Heddon Street (off of Regent’s Street) in London since 2008. The restaurant is a vegetarian and vegan help-yourself establishment with a bar and take away facility.
When you walk into the restaurant, you’re greeted by the Food Boat – a bar of help yourself vegetarian foods, both hot and cold. Diners are given a table and a plate and told to choose whatever you want from the selection, then take it to be bar to be weighed and order drinks. The bar also has alcoholic drinks and cocktails, but we chose two of the juices – Tutti Fruit and Apple-Celery-Carrot. The Food Boat was well stocked with vegetarian (and vegan) foods with everything from salads to deep fried mushrooms, tofu and quiches. The food was replenished quickly, and brought out fresh with the cold foods being a cooler temperature, but the hot foods were not as hot as we would have liked. At the end of the Food Boat, you spot the desserts. They look minimal compared to the swathes of main course foods, but when it comes to finishing your main meal, there’s little room left for dessert! We tried the passionfruit cheesecake and tiramisu desserts, but you can also choose ice creams from the bar area.
The restaurant reminds me of a Swiss chalet with low lighting, flock wallpaper and a clean feel with glass throughout. They redecorate every two years to make the restaurant area feel fresh. Downstairs, there’s another seating area where parties are catered for. There’s also a lift for disabled visitors, making it accessible to everyone. Vegans are catered for every day but there’s also a special Vegan Tuesday where all items available are vegan-friendly.
It’s a lovely casual atmosphere in the restaurant with good food, and the added bonus that you can choose as much or as little as you like without having to worry about whether it’s vegetarian or not when you eat, and there’s plenty to choose from!
