Thorpe Park 2018 Review

My 13-year-old daughter is what one might call a real dare devil. There was therefore a lot of excitement when she found out I was taking her and a couple of friends to Thorpe Park for the day. Whilst the theme park is easily accessible via car, we opted for a relaxed train journey. The first stage of our train journey was from Luton to West Hampstead Thameslink with www.thameslinkrailway.com. The trains run approximately every 15 minutes, so it felt like no wait at all before we set off. We then had a short walk to the overground station, where we got on the train from West Hampstead to Richmond. The final leg of our train journey was from Richmond to Staines with www.southwesternrailway.com. We then had a short wait for our shuttle bus, which cost a few pounds each.

The bus dropped us off outside the resort. For those queuing to get it, there are excellent toilet facilities outside the theme park. We excitedly entered the park and headed through the dome to our first ride. My daughter made good use of the rides throughout the day and actually got on several of the rides more than once. There are so many rides to mention, but my favourite was the Rumba Rapids – a water ride. My daughter tends to be a big fan of thrill rides, which I have to admit I do give a miss. My daughter and her friends favourite rides were Saw, The Swarm and Colossus, all rollercoasters.

Whilst we did not venture onto Amity Beach, it looked like a lovely place for families with younger children to spend time. I had breakfast in Fin’s Bar, which was all you can eat. It tasted amazing and staff were so friendly. I also had the all you can eat buffet lunch at Inferno’s Pizza and Pasta restaurant. If I ever had a query, the staff were so knowledgeable, and nothing was too much trouble.

We have never stayed at the resort, but I do love the look of the on-site Thorpe Shark Hotel. There are also several short break options nearby. Why not consider a Thorpe Park or Merlin Annual Pass. Both are really good value.

After an exciting day, we headed back home via the shuttle bus and train. I think going by train just added to the adventure and it was far more relaxing than a busy drive. The train service ran to good time, the trains were clean and the staff friendly and knowledgeable.

We cannot wait to visit again, in fact we have several visits planned for 2019.
