I was very fortunate to be given the opportunity to do a review of The Johnny Cash Roadshow at Grove Theatre, Dunstable, Friday 27th September.

On arrival in the foyer reception there was an instant buzz and great atmosphere of guests looking eager to find their seats etc. I went with my husband who frequently plays Johnny Cash and was brought up listening to it whilst a passenger in his father's car. We also joined other members of my family who was already going. The Grove Theatre very kindly placed my complimentary seats with their seats in a box that consisted of side stalls. On collection of my tickets I received the usual friendly greeting from the lady at reception!

Once we found our seats we was amazed at how busy the theatre was, it would appear the show was sold out. I was pleasantly surprised to see a real mixture of ages attending from as young as 7 or 8 upwards to every age range you would imagine. It was obvious there were some real Jonny Cash followers/supporters. The atmosphere in the audience was very excitable for the duration of the show especially at the start and end where there was a standing ovation.

The guy who played Johnny Cash was quite humorous throughout telling little jokes along the way inbetween singing. He introduced all members of his band with a brief summary of their history along with June Cash who he did several duos with. I lost count on how many lovely costumes June Cash changed into but I think it was at least 5 or 6, she really looked the part and very convincing.

Throughout the show there was lots of the audience participated singing along, I recognised lots of the hits, I think he covered most of his greatest hits (which he would introduce a bit of history to the date when Johnny first made that hit). What I think really added to the atmosphere was the slide show which constantly changed with photographs relevant to the time period of the hit. All in all a really good performance of Johnny Cash and June Carter and the other members of the band were brilliant too.

Great value for money.

Totally recommend and would definitely attend again, not be missed. The Johnny Cash Roadshow is currently on tour, for more details of a venue near you or to book tickets visit www.johnnycashroadshow.com.
